Thorium, better nuclear energy

About two years ago we wrote about the potentials of Thorium as a safer substitute for Uranium, and how India is pushing the field (India has the world’s largest reserves of Thorium). Now the Netherlands are getting in on the train and will be conducting the first molten salt and thorium fission tests in 45 years. Now while real Thorium reactors may still be decades a way, this could be a first step to a reliable and sustainable nuclear energy. Thorium reactors are both cleaner (substantially less toxic waste) and less likely to suffer meltdowns.

“Fun” fact, why haven’t we focused on thorium before you say? It’s much harder to weaponize…

Amazon breaking the rules of retail (again)

Amazon’s WholeFoods acquisition went through last week and Amazon spent the first day cutting prizes across the board ,by as much as 43 percent! Dilevery (hopefully Prime enabled) should be along soon and reports are in that Amazon is already selling their Echo speaker in stores. Amazon sure isn’t losing any time as they push retail disruption even further. How long till the Echo asks you in the morning for your confirmation on a autonomously prepared grocery shopping list, that is arriving with a drone the same evening?

Turnaround a company that is losing billions, has a high-stakes lawsuit filed by Alphabet ( Google) and has a business model that is legally challenged in many of its markets. The former Expedia chief, Dara Khosrowshahi, is officially replacing co-foudner and kicked out CEO Travis Kalanick at Uber. Apparently the joke in silicon valley is that, with so much of management missing, Uber is now effectively a self-driving car company.
