High speed internet from Space

We have heard about the idea before. Small satellites or drones spread out in space all over the globe in order to democratize the internet. SpaceX is now taking an important step to make this real by applying for permission to send out 4 425 satellites into space, starting as soon as 2019. The promise is high-speed, low-latency internet to the whole world! By using the Falcon 9 reusable rocket the project aims to make satellite based internet better and more cost efficient than ever before. Watch out telcos!

Robot eye surgery!

Yep that’s right, a robot has performed the first ever surgeries inside human eyes. The system, which has been studied at the University of Oxford, can provide high precision 10 microns in all three primary directions, which apparently is about 10 times” ore precise than what a surgeon can do. The study also showed significantly less bleeding and less damage to the retina!

In other med-news Microsoft’s HoloLens and augmented reality has been shown a great addition in the surgery room too. Augmented reality software company Scopis has released a platform for HoloLens specifically to aid in spinal surgeries. There is a potential to improve accuracy and speed up procedures.
