Facebook is betting big on chat-bots
Chat-bot technology has been around for a while but the format has not been developed very much. Now this is changing as several companies are betting on development of chat-bots. Our blog recently wrote about how Quartz has created a chat-bot for an interactive news experience and now bigger players are realizing the potential of customer interaction that the technology holds. On a developer conference earlier this week Facebook announced plans to open up their Messenger-app for external developers to create their own chat-bots inside the platform. With this move Facebook aims to connect their 900 million users with the 15 million businesses that have an official Facebook page. Could this be the beginning of the end of apps, a future where we interact with our technology mainly through conversation?
At the same time Facebook are struggling with their core, sharing of personal things on Facebook (as opposed to posting links) is down 15-20%. Will Facebook stay the biggest tin social? Definitely not without us sharing personal things!
More from Elon!
Elon Musk’s SpaceX successfully demonstrated that their Falcon 9 rocket really is capable of landing on a drone ship. This time, the rocket gracefully touched down on the ship after ferrying a Dragon capsule with supplies for the ISS. Next step is now to actually reuse the rocket, and SpaceX have announced that they are planning a launch with reuse in May. History unfolding before us!
From baby to Unicorn in 6 months!!
Several companies are now able to call themselves unicorns but a recent one might be the most impressive (decacorns aside) seen yet. The Chinese startup iCarbonX has just finished a series A funding round of 154m USD, meaning that they have within six months managed to be valued at 1bn USD. The company are using artificial intelligence and big data to create health management solutions and find medical breakthroughs, using a team that was a mix of biotech and AI/big data experts. Chinese media are now calling them “the new Google”. Let’s see what they can deliver!
Spotify beating the big (political) drum!
In an open letter the founders of Spotify, Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon are threatening Swedish politicians with thousands of lost jobs if they do not act. In the letter they explain that although Sweden currently has momentum, there is risk of companies leaving as they scale, primarily due to key issues; lack of accommodation, education of programmers (especially female ones) and finally the heavy taxation on stock options. Big talk, very interesting to see what happens! Surely a huge loss for Stockholm and Sweden if the threats aren’t a bluff!
